A children’s rebellion against the ideal of female beauty
June 2018
The workshop was part of the process of the creation of the poster of Disobedient Fashion II; an activity aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 8 years old, where each of them operates freely on a Barbie. Since its invention, Barbie has been a model for what and who a woman of any age should look like, contributing to the creation of the universal aesthetic of infantilised femininity. Rebellion, more than intervention on a corporal level, is questioning the Eurocentric beauty canon that Barbie represents, and that we have all internalised.
